Do you ever get that itch? The itch to bet, to head to the nearest betting house, to come across a high stakes casino game of Hold em, to sit at a Black-jack table for hours on end. I love that itch. And I like to scratch it.

I also really like to watch people today gamble. No two poker faces seem similar. When I wager I like to feel I put on a poker face that is impenetrable. But I know I have specific mannerisms. For one, the only time I smoke cigarettes is when I play poker or Black jack. And then I chain smoke. But I chain smoke regardless of whether I am succeeding or losing, whether I’ve a beneficial hand or bad.

I once bet within a weekly poker game. The casino game was constantly 5 card draw. There was a gentleman who played with us every single week who usually wore a hat. When he was given a good hand, subconsciously, he would begin touching and wagering with his hat. Pointless to say, he never won.

The very best poker gambler I ever saw was a gentleman who manufactured much more actions and signals at a poker table than anyone I had ever seen. He was impeccable in the way he dressed. Usually an costly suit and tie, boots shined and nails manicured. He was fastidious in this manner. And he was constantly brushing his pants or holding his hands or putting his chips in neat little piles.

I use to examine him for hours. I’d tried to see if I could spot his tell. Selecting fuzz off his jacket- did this imply he was bluffing? Stacking his chips in a very short pile – did this mean he had a excellent hand?

Many years later I ran into him in a bar in New York and we had a beverage. I asked him if he have been aware of all those movements he created or if they had been unconscious. He told me that just about every single thing he did at a poker table was deliberate. He said that everyone is often checking out everybody else’s poker face. They’re trying to detect the the tell.

So his program was to provide them lots to feel about. His thinking was if they have been thinking about him picking a piece of lint off his vest and what it meant they certain weren’t pondering about their cards.

His method was distraction. And it worked for him. Never give up a technique that functions for you.
