Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the final game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While wagering on net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amount. I believe television can alter our view of the real world at times. The best players in the world may be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
