[ English ]

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
