Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to make it to the last game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While gambling on internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I believe television can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world could be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
