Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve final game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest enthusiasts in the world. While participating in web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He often plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I think tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in big stakes omaha hold’em and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
